In this interactive workshop, participants will learn movement to the Malinke family of rhythms known as Kassa, which is played for farmers as they work. No prior dance experience is needed and movement can be modified for all body types and mobilities. Participants will leave the workshop with greater joy and greater knowledge of how music and movement factor into African diasporic agricultural practices. Learning African dance expands cultural awareness, focuses the mind, activates happiness, boosts cardiovascular health, tones and stretches muscles, enhances respiratory health, increases spatial awareness, promotes collaboration, expands communication skills, and builds camaraderie in the collective. Movement learned during this workshop can be used during movement breaks in educational settings for all ages. Educators and communities will benefit greatly from this fun and enriching workshop!
